Mokai.

Boxing Tournament. A school boys’ boxing tournament, conducted by the Mokai Primary Schools’ Boxing Club, under the auspices of the Hamilton Boxing Association, took place at Mokai recently, and was an unqualified success. The proceeds are to be devoted to the school sports fund. The following is a list of the various bouts:— Fly-weights, 4.7. R. Kellow beat T. Wereta. The latter had Kellow puzzled in the first round, but Kellow, fighting very strongly, ran out a winner on points. F. Brown beat J. Dibley. The latter stuck to it very gamely to lose on points. Final.—Kellow proved too good for Brown, who nevertheless fought very gamely. Bantam Weight, 5.0. J. Graham beat Jim Culpan. This was the best bout of the evening. Both fought every moment of the three rounds, and after an extra round, Graham received the verdict by a very narrow margin. F. Watson beat D. Clark. The latter, acting on the referee’s advice, retired after two rounds. Final.—Graham beat Watson after three lively rounds. Heavy-weight, 7.7. Joe Culpan beat C. Scrivener on points. The loser, despite a big handicap in weight and reach, fought very gamely. Kara Roto beat C. Robinson. The loser, although much out-classed, refused to give in, and despite much punishment he went the three rounds. Final.—Culpan beat Rota, who, acting on the referee’s advice, reluctantly reitred after two rounds. Light-weight, 6.0. P. Seymour beat J. Clark, who fought very gamely to lose on points. K. Gamble beat B. Terei. A heavy right to the jaw caused the latter's retirement in the first round. Feather-weight, 5.7. R. Theobold and H. Ruha fought three hurricane rounds to a draw. An exhibition given by four midgets, Joe Kellow, J. Govensen, D. McKenzie and L. Lindeman, caused much amusement, as did a blindfold exhibition given by J. Gamble and A. Crawford At the conclusion several additional trophies were donated, enabling every boy to receive one, R. Kellow receiving one awarded to the most outstanding boxer.
