TOWN HALL FIRE EXITS.
ARE THERE SUFFICIENT ? Board Discusses Matter. The question of the safety or otherwise of the Putaruru Town Hall in having sufficient exits was discussed at the September meeting of the Putaruru Town Board. Mr. C. C. Neal was of the opinion that there were not sufficient exits. He wondered if the Town Board would be liable in the event of deaths by fire. Mr. A. E. Barr Brown said that he had brought the matter up some considerable time ago but it had been emphatically turned down. Mr. Yandle favoured a straightout exit. Mr. IC. McDermott recalled telling the board on previous occasions that if private people had the hall the board would not allow them to carry on with the hall in its present condition. The clerk (Mr. A. H. Dukeson) was of the opinion that the danger (in the event of fire) lay in the possibility of the forms being pushed up against the exits. He suggested that legal advice be obtained on the question of the board’s liability. Mr. Yandle protested against smoking in the hall".
On the motion of Mr.-Yandle it was decided to get notices printed re the prohibition of smoking.
