A PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN.
FOR PUTARURU. New Scheme Suggested. The question of a publicity scheme for Putaruru has been before the Chamber of Commerce on several occasions, and at tire August meeting the president (Mr. T. F. Snell) and Mr. J. C. Ross were appointed a subcommittee to draft a scheme for presentation to the September meeting. Mr. Ross submitted a newspaper campaign. A somewhat similar scheme at Matamata had resulted in definite business being brought to the town. The value of repetition w T as stressed and it was in that direction that the newspaper had the advantage over tlie pamphlet. Mr. Charles Alcorn, in a letter, stated that he had seen the proposals and considered the scheme a very good one. The Press was the most important connecting link between the business people and the residents of the surrounding country, and advertising therein constituted the most economic and efficient method of sustaining business relationship. The proposed community advertisement would bring under the notice of readers the advantages of local shopping and would give the full advantages obtained by the reiteration of statements which could not obtain in a booklet issued and probably read but once. The idea was strongly commended to the Chamber. The chairman (Mr. T. F. Snell) said the scheme was a deviation from the original proposal. During the past meetings other aspects had been presented. It was’ rather a big question to decide at once. Mr. L. C. M. Wilson suggested that the business people be canvassed to see what they thought of the scheme. Mr. Wilson offered to canvass the business people, and Mr. Snell offered his assistance. A report is to be furnished to the next meeting.
