SNOWSTORM AT PUTARURU.
UNUSUAL PHENOMENON. Heaviest in History of Town. Residents of Putaruru who rose at about G a.m. on Monday were surprised to see snow falling heavily, . and by 7.30 a.m. the ground had a T mantle of snow to a depth of 11 inches. The fall ceased shortly before 8 o’clock, and before noon all traces of snow had disappeared. The fall was the heaviest experienced in the history of Putaruru dating back over 20 years. Only on two previous occasions in that time had there been any semblance of snow in Putaruru. Motorists from Taupo reported that heavy snow had fallen in the vicinity of the Taupo-Putaruru road. At Tokoroa the fall was the heaviest experienced during the past 12 years. Camera owners were busy in Putaruru during the morning securing permanent impressions of the fall. Snowballing was popular, many prominent business people indulging in the pastime.
