Before the war the Emperor Francis Joseph was considered the richest man in Austria. Since then the Hapsburg family has lost the greatter part of its property, and to-day the 52-year-old Baron Alfons Rothschild is the financial regent in the Danube Republic (says the Vienna Herald). This great financier owns notv more than half of the industrial and financial weath of the country, and he is estimated to be worth many millions. Under his control are not fewer than eight banks, four hotels, and 13 building companies, besides many important industrial enterprises , and trading companies.
