LEAKING WATER PUMP.
The water pump fitted to many cars is a part of a car that should—and usually does—give uninterrupted service during the car’s entire life. In fact this is so true that there are many drivers who do not even know there is such a thing on their cars. The water pump need never be a source of worry. But, like anything else, it can be under certain circumstances. If water is seen leaking from the neighbourhood of the pump the packing nut should be tightened as much as possible with the fingers. If it cannot be tightened sufficiently in this manner apply a wrench and turn it a very little farther. When the nut is too tight the packing will be destroyed and the shaft possibly scored. New packing may be necessitated if the nut is tightened too much.
