SHOPPING WEEK SHELVED.

BOOKLET FAVOURED. By Chamber of Commerce. The question of a shopping week and a publicity campaign for Putaruru was again before the Putaruru Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting on Monday. The Chamber had sent out written invitations to all the business people asking them to he present, hut only two, Messrs. Lawrence and Ranger, availed themselves of the opportunity.

The president, Mr. T. F. Snell, said the business people must have a lot of confidence in the Chamber or little desire to push along the interests of Putaruru. The shopkeepers appeared apathetic.

Mr. Mason stated that if they were not apathetic they must be hostile. He favoured shelving the matter until a later date.

The president suggested getting out a booklet pointing out the advantages of shopping in Putaruru. The cost of the booklet could be met by selling advertising space therein.

Mr. Mason said this was a new idea and appeared more feasible. He moved that the president and Mr. J. C. Ross be appointed a sub-commit-tee to go into the question of a booklet.

Mr. Simpson seconded the motion, which was carried after Messrs. Ranger and Lawrence had spoken in favour of the idea.
