THE PUTARURU PRESS. ’Phone 28 P.O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 1930. THE LOAN PROPOSALS.
THE most satisfactory feature about the polls taken on Monday as regards the Town Hall and Recreation Ground proposals was the interest shown by the ratepayers; interest that found expression in so many votes being cast at the ballot box. The supporters of the Town Hall proposal may be surprised at the large majority against the scheme, and whilst they may ; doubt the wisdoom of- the ■ ratepayers in turning the proposal down, the vote w T as so decisive that it must be accepted with equanimity, We think that the ratepayers acted wisely in deciding to acquire “ Bent’s paddock ” as a : ’ Recreation Ground, and future generations are likely to be thankful for the foresight of the ratepayers of Putaruru in thus giving them such an ideally situated 1 breathing space. The polls on Monday saw the end of schemes that have been in the air for a considerable time, and now that the ratepayers have decided the issues we trust that any little feeling that may have been engendered will be speedily, dismissed and the interests of the town will ever be paramount in the minds of the ratepayers.
