OBITUARY.

MR. JOSEPH ROBINSON. The death occurred on Friday of Mr. Joseph Robinson, a well-known settler of Taihoa, Matamata, in his 76th year. Deceased was bom at Glenarm, Ireland, and came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Tweed fifty-one years ago. Shortly after landing he joined the Armed Constabulary, serving in the South Island. Later he engaged in farming operations, but soon gave that up for contracting, with a partner, Mr. Gordon. The firm of Gordon and Robinson was responsible for portions of the Main Trunk line in the Auckland Province, and also built the Auckland-Helensville section, and the Dargaville-Kaihu line. Later Mr. Robinson owned hotel property at Pukekohe and Auckland, in the former town holding eleven acres in what is now the centre of the borough, and for the past 20 years lias lived in the Matamata district. Mr. Robinson was married at Panmure to Miss Sarah Baskeville, daughter of Mr. A. Baskeville, a member of the Imperial Army who had settled in that district after the Maori war. His wife predeceased him. The late Mr. Robinson, who was a member of tile Masonic order, is survived by a family of six, four daughters, Mesdames Ball (Staffordshire, England), S. Wilson (Wanganui, C. Hitchcock (Rotorua), Miss C. Robinson (Matamata) and two sons, Harold (Auckland) and Joseph (Matamata). The youngest son, Victor, was killed in the Great War. The deceased was greatly respected throughout the province. He was of a kindly and genial disposition and a great host. The Robinson home was one of those which was ever open to friends, and the removal of the head will be greatly regretted by a large circle.
