MELONS AND SHARKS. The following letter received by the secretary of an adjacent Racing Club, is deemed to be original both in regard to the subject matter and phraseology of the request: “ On behalf of the Racing Club we’d be much obliged to get permission from your club to run Poata Tao catering. That means roast pork and vegetables, and also water melon. This catering is really for the natives, and don’t interfear with the big tender, and also quote your price. Hop- . ing to hear from your club by return Jk mail. From your truelly friend —g • Twenty years ago “ Trebla ” went to the Ngaruawahia regatta. He can still smell the shark. Surely there are enough melons on every race course already. Request declined, thanks.
