TOWN BOARD SLIGHTED.
VISIT OF MINISTER. Protest to Mr. Clinkard, M.P. When the general business stage was reached at the December meeting of the Putaruru Town Board on Tuesday evening the chairman, Mr. G. G. Griffiths, referred to the fact that the question of the overhead bridge had held the works up, and the very man who could have given some information, and possibly assistance, was in the town on Monday. He referred to the Minister of Transport, Hon. W, A. Veitch, but unfortunately a breach of courtesy had been committed by the failure to notify the Town Board of the intended visit. The first intimation the speaker received was from a Press representative on the morning of the visit,- so that there was no time to get a deputation together to wait on the Minister. Through Mr. Clinkard’s neglect they had missed the opportunity. It was the usual custom when a Minister of the Crown proposed to visit a place for the member for the district to advise local bodies. He moved that they write to Mr. Clinkard, strongly protesting against the slight on the Town Board. ■ The motion was carried, Mr. Yandle remarking, “ Ask him to call in on the way back.” (Laughter.)
