Stock Sales.
’ MATAMATA. At the usual fortnightly stock sale conducted by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. at Matamata on Wednesday, there was a good average yarding of fat and store cattle and a good yarding of young cattle. All lines were quitted at late rates with the exception of beef, which showed slight decline. Cattle.— Fat cows, £8 4s to £9. Medium fat cows, £7 7s 6d to £8 2s 6d. light fat cows, £6 5s to £7 4s. Store cows, £4 5s to £6 2s. Cows with calves, £7 to £7 3s. 18 - months to 2-year-old Shorthorn steers, £7 15s. Yearling Shorthorn steers, £4 7s 6d to £6 ss. , 2-Year empty heifers, £5 10s. Jersey and Jersey-cross yearling heifers, £5 11s to £6 12s. Yearling Shorthorn heifers, £5 16s to £6 ss. 18-Months Shorthorn heifers, £7 11s. Jersey weaner calves, £2 15s. Bulls, £4 15s to £9. Dairy Cattle.— Cows close -to profit, £ll 15s. Heifers close to profit, £6 10s to £8 10s. Digs.— At the opening pig sale there was a full yarding of mostly good pigs, •"With keen competition throughout. ■ Brices were:— Heavy baeoners, £3 15s to £3 18s. Medium baeoners, £3 8s to £3 12s. light baeoners, £3 to £3 ss. Heavy -porkers, £2 18s to £3 3s. . light porkers, £2 8s to £2 12s. Stores, 35s to £2 2s. Slips, 28s to 335. Weaners, 20s to 30s. MORRIN S VILLE. A good yarding of sheep and a medium offering of cattle came forward at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co.’s ’ sale at Morrinsville on Friday. Beef , and mutton sold on a par with rates nil ling outside. A heavy yarding of pigs was offered. Porkers and baconears. were easier, ■ but prices for - -stores and weaners continued firm. Few of the dairy cows coming forward were of good quality and a number of the lines were passed in. Bidding was slack and prices showed a tendency to decline. Rates were as follow: Beef.— Fat bullocks, to £ls. lighter bullocks, £l2 to £l2 12s. Heavy fat cows, £9 to £lO 2s 6d Medium fat cows, £7 7s to £8 19s. light fat cows, £6 5s to £7 12s 6d. Forward cows, £5 10s to £6.
Store cows, £4 to £4 7s 6d. 18-Months Jersey heifers, r.w.b., £7 to £7 Is. Yearling Jersey heifers, r.w.b., £7 to £7 14s. Calves to £2 ss. Bulls, £3 10s to £6. Sheep.— Shorn fat ewes, 17s 3d to 20s. Shorn fat hoggets, to 26s sd. Fat woolly hoggets, 25s lOd to 31s. Fat wethers, 26s 9d to 335. Fat lambs, to 255. Pigs.— Medium baeoners, £3 2s to £3 Bs. Heavy porkers, £2 10s to £2 17s. Light porkers, £2 2s to £2 7s. Slips, 30s to 375. Weaners, 16s to 28s. Dairy Cattle.—Cows in milk, £8 to £lO. Jersey and Jersey-cross heifers, £9 10s to £ll. HAMILTON. There was a large yarding of fat and store cattle at the Frankton saleyards on Tuesday and advanced prices were realised. A smaller yarding of sheep sold at late rates. Pigs were yarded in large numbers and sold at higher rates under keen competition. Beef.— Fat steers, £l3 2s 6d to £l4 Bs. Light £ll 15s to £l2 12s 6d. Fat cows £lO 17s to £l2 Is. Medium £9 5s to £lO Is. Light £7 9s to £8 ss. Forward-conditioned cows £6 17s to £7 3s. . Store cows £3 to £6 4s. Yearling Hereford and Shorthorn -heifers £4 to £5 15s. Bulls £4 to £7. Sheep.— Fat wethers 29s 4d. Pat lambs 26s to 80s. Pigs.— Medium baeoners £3 5s to £3 10s. Light £2 18s to £3. Heavy porkers £2 15s to £3. Medium £2 8s to £2 12s. Light £2 2s to £2 6s. Stores £1 16s to £2 2s. Slips 30s to 355. Weaners 14s to 23s 6d.
CLEARANCE SALE. Mr. D. Spence. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. held a successful clearing sale on Wednesday at Te Aroha on account of Mr. D. Spence, Te Aroha. There was a good attendance and bidding was brisk for good dairy cattle. Jersey cross cows in milk made £l2 to £l4 10s; Shorthorn cows in milk, £ll 5s to £l3; Friesian cows in milk, £9 10s to £l2 10s; jersey cross heifers in milk, £9 10s to £l3 10s; Jersey cows close to profit, £8 10s to £l4 10s: yearling Jersey cross heifers, to £6 10s; weaner calves, £2 7s.
Mr. J. T. Hawke. The exceptionally keen demand existing for choice dairy cows was exemplified at the clearance sale at Te Mimi Estate, Mangateparu, conducted by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. on account of Mr. J. T. Hawke on Monday. Buyers were present from all parts of the Morrinsville district and surrounding 'centres, and there was not a lull in the bidding throughout the sale. The best stock naturally were in keenest demand, and unusually high prices were the order, the peak rate being £29. The herd was a choice Jersey one, and;, last season’s test sheets, which were on exhibit, showed the individuals to be high producers. The cows were yarded in fine condition. The average for 70 cows, excluding several defective cows and a line of killable cows, was £ls Is 6d. The range of prices for choice cows in milk was from £2O to £29, Jersey and Jersey-cross cows bringing from £l4 to £lB. Other Jerseys changed hands at between £9 and £l2.i Empty killable cows brought from £7 10s to £8 10s.
Prices for yearling heifer calves ranged from £5 2s 6d to £5 15s, smaller sorts making from £2 to £3 7s 6d.
Rates for pigs were as follow: Slips 31s to 365, Tamworth sows with litters £5 15s to £9, Tamworth sows in pig £3 5s to £4 10s.
