BUILDING WITHOUT PERMIT.
BUILDER CONVICTED. Case as a Warning. At the November sitting of the Putaruru Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., the Putaruru Town Board (Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead) proceeded against J. A. Ranger for building a shed before obtaining a permit. Mr. Mason, who appeared for the defendant, entered a plea of guilty. Mr. Lochhead quoted the by-law, and stated that the Town Board did not press for a heavy penalty, but they desired to bring home to people, especially builders, that the by-laws must be strictly observed. Mr. Mason said that the permit had been applied for, and the fee paid for same. The defendant had previously applied for permits and they had been issued, so that on the occasion in question it was taken for granted that the permit would be issued as a matter of course. The defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs.
