BACHELOR FLATS?
PUTARURU DWELLINGS. Health Department to Inspect. A smile went round the Putaruru Town Board table at its last meeting when Mr. J. C. Tomalin referred to the fact that “ bachelor flats ” had been erected in Lockington’s buildings, in Princes street. A number of huts that also were not supposed to be used for habitation purposes were so being utilised. Mr. McDermott stated that when the plans and application for a permit for alterations to Lockington’s building were brought to him there was no mention of bachelor flats. The plan was in order. The chairman (Mr. G. G. Griffiths) said the matter was one for the Health Department.
It was decided to ask the Health Department to inspect this building. In reference to the huts, if qualified permission had been given to use them, and a breach of the bylaws was committed, action should be taken. The board decided to leave the matter to its solicitors to act as they thought fit.
