BOY SCOUTS.
COMMITTEE ELECTED. An enthusiastic meeting of those interested in the Boy Scout movement was held in the Vicarage on Friday evening. The Rev. E. H. Atkey was elected chairman.
Mr. McDermott, who has been acting as scoutmaster for some time past, was in attendance, and in addressing the meeting said that scouting made for better citizenship. The ideal to be aimed at by the scouts was the acquirement of the King’s scout badge, the best of all badges. A number of Tirau boys attended the weekly parade, and all were as keen as mustard. There were 24 boys in the troop, and a committee was «d----solutely necessary. Mrs. Tulloch had Ja consented to take charge of the cubs ™ until someone was found who would be willing to take them ower. After a brief discussion, it was decided to form a committee of eleven, with power to add, and that subject to the Dominion rules five be a quorum.
The following committee was elected: Mesdames Alcorn (Putaruru), Craig, Withers (Tirau), Messrs. J. R. O. Lochhead, E. H. Atkey, A. G. Leggatt, T. F. Snell, R. T. Smith, Paxton (Putaruru), M. E. Fitzgerald and W. R. Inman-Marshall (Tirhu). The following officers were elected out of the committee: President, * Rev. E. H. Atkey; secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead. j Mr. McDermott was formally appointed scoutmaster, and a warrant is to be applied for. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr C. S. Snell for the use of his garage as a meeting place for the scouts. The meeting closed with votes of thanks to Mr. Mackie (Tirau) for acting as secretary for the meeting, and to the chairman.
