TE POI REQUEST.
ACCESS ON BY-ROAD.
Question of Cash. Mr. F. C. Whytcross, Te Poi, wrote to the Matamata County Council on Friday with reference to Te Hanga road, stating that it was two years since ariy council employee ha« put a shovel on it. The writer had put his own men on to shift a number of slips. The culverts were decayed and filled up, with the result that the was running anywhere. In one place there was a spring in the middle of the road, preventing his conveyances from getting past, so that he had to unload and use horses. He had repeatedly asked the roadman, who for two years had a free house and grazing on a section fronting the road, to do [ something, but the writer had beerT | told it could not be done without authority. The writer said he had also sp‘“ken to the assistant engineer, who had pr'OiliJsM that something' would be done. As the Writer was cropping on the property he asked tliat the road be put into reasonable condition and that the roadman be instructed to keep it in order. As an old grader man he thought the cheapest method of repairing would be by grader. The engineer said the road was not a first-class one, but he had taken his car up the full length last summer, and the roadman had done some work on the road on at least three occasions during the past two years. In the ordinary way some work would" be done on the road this summer. The clerk said the general rates last year amounted to 30s, of which about 10s would be available for road. It was decided to leave the matter i in the hands of the riding member and engineer with power to act.
