PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tirau-Putaruru District. Despite unfavourable weather there was a large attendance at the annual meeting of the Tirau-Putaruru district Presbyterian Church at Tirau on Friday evening. The Moderator, the Rev. A. C. Hampton, presided, and congratulated the minister and people on the success of the year’s work, and the growth that had attended the church operations since the parish had been formed, barely four years ago. The session report, as read by Mr. J. W. Amoore, after referring to the

manner in which Mrs. ‘ Brabyn had endeared herself to all, stated that during the year a manse, sufficiently commodious to meet the requirements for many years, had been built. Mr. Brabyn had improved the grounds by planting fruit, shelter and ornamental trees. The roll number was 71, and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper had been dispensed at Tirau, Putaruru, Tokoroa and Arapuni.

Mr. Brabyn had officiated at 30 baptisms, 7 marriages and 7 funerals during the year. The thanks of the session are due to the various helpers, Mrs. Stewart, who has been organist for about 25 years, being deserving of special mention. The Ladies’ Guild at Tirau and Putaruru had also rendered excellent service.

The report closed with the expression of hope that the minister (the Rev. W. T. Brabyn) would long be spared to carry out his arduous duties.

Various other reports were given by Mr. W. G. Macky (committee report), Ladies’ Guild (Mrs. N. Coubrough), Y.M.B.C. (Mr. B. Amoore), Y.W.B.C. (Miss M. Mouldey). The various reports were adopted. The statement of accounts showed that the year’s revenue, including donations to the manse and Putaruru hall, amounted to £BOO. Owing to the church year being extended to 16 months, there was a small deficit on the year’s working. The envelope system was commended by the Moderator, and Messrs. Spedding and Macky.

The Rev. W. T. Brabyn feelingly thanked all who had supported him in the various parts of the parish, commending the work of the organists: Mrs. Stewart (Tirau), Mr. Howie (Putaruru), Mrs. Watkins (Piarere), Mrs. Gubb (Okoroire), Mrs. Bulmer (Arapuni), Mrs. Pearson (Puketurua), Mrs. Shute (Waotu) and Mrs. Fryer (Tokoroa). The following were elected to fill vacancies on the Tirau committee: Messrs. F. Spedding, C. Syme and R. Fitzgerald.

After supper (provided by the ladies), the meeting closed with the pronouncement of the benediction.
