THE PUTARURU PRESS. 'Phone 28 P.O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1929. POWER BOARD COMPLAINTS.
THE attempt of Mr. J. Allen, the member for Morrinsville on the Thames Valley Power Board, to obtain an alteration in the policy would seem to be amply justified, and, in a broad sense, the recent report submitted to the board would seem to be nothing more than an effective attempt at whitewashing.
That an alteration is needed few will deny at this end of , the Power Board’s district,- for the treatment meted out has been far from satisfactory. Three instances . which cannot be controverted will suffice to prove this statement. The first is the fact that after the town had been plunged into darkness on several occasions on late shopping and picture nights, causing great loss to businessmen, the remedy for this most unsatisfactory state of affairs was supplied by a layman unconnected with the board. The second is the very high cost of street lamp renewals, some of which damage has been proved to unsatisfactory attention, and the third is that when Mr. Anderson, the town’s past representative on the board, visited Putaruru to investigate some eighteen complaints, he called a halt after interviewing four or five, and stated he was quite satisfied that there were genuine grounds for grievances.
Other similar facts could be quoted, but enough has been given to prove that Mr. Allen is on the right lines, and that some form of reorganisation would appear to be overdue.
