METERING SYSTEM.
TAHUNA COMPLAINT. Replying, to a letter from Thames Valley Power Board on Tuesday, Mr. J. P. Jensen, of Tahuna, expressed surprise that the board was going to break the conditions under which the power was installed. He understood that Mr. White, for whom the board had in- ! stalled meters, was very dissatisfied 1 because the charges would be very I much higher. Mr. H. K. White- ' church informed the writer recently j that he had been told by Mr. Strange ' that under meters the charges would be lighter. As the board had meters at Mr. Whites’, how, Mr. Jensen asked, did his charges compare with the flat rate? Mr. Whitechurch tatd him last year it cost him £7O por power, and if the charges were to be raised then he would “ pull out.” Seventy pounds on a herd of 110 cows was roughly 13s per head, which was considered too much. “ If the power board can break its contract with consumers, then I presume that consumers can do likewise,” the letter concluded. “ There are other consumers who say that if the charges go up they will not take power. Therefore I will be pleased if yon can give me some idea of what you have found is the case, as these men may be only speaking from memory and hence may be slightly mistakeny* The chairman said the present indications pointed to there being
duced charges under the meter system. The meters had been installed only two months, and until they had been in for twelve months no true comparison could be made.
