Expecting to find Invercargill to be a hamlet, an Aucklander and a Wellingtonian who arrived recently on their first visit to that part of the Dominion were very agreeably surprised at the size of the town, being especially charmed with the view from the water tower. But there was a fly in the ointment, however, as both returned north without having seen that which they desired so much to see. Whether the intricacies of Invercargill’s tramway service proved too much for them or not over the week-end, the fact remains that they were' unable to arrive at the correct terminus, and consequently they had to depart without having had the pleasure of gazing at the most southerly gas lamp in the world.
