PLUNKET BALL.

A HUGE SUCCESS. The second annual Plunket ball . was held on Friday evening in the t Town Hall and was from all view- | points a distinct success. The hall was charmingly decorated, streamers, balloons and coloured lights being used with effect, while the walls were covered with greenery and artificial cherry blossoms. The first part of the evening was devoted to the children, and the several grand marches revealed a large number of happy children in fancy dress. Mrs. Barnes and Mr. Keith Barnes supplied the music for the children’s dance, while Mr. Rolfe was M.C. Mr. and Mrs. Wells, Matamata, as judges of the fancy dresses, were given a difficult task. The following were awarded prizes:— Best Couples.—Senior, T. Leggatt and Mavis Beca ; junior, Jack and Jim Rolfe ; tiny tots, Noel Smith and J. Reid. Best Fancy Dresses.—Senior, Minnie Rossiter, Gordon Stevenson ; junior, Myra Smith,, Peter Tulloch ; tiny tots, Joan Reid, Keith McDermott. Second Division : Senior, Jean Flyger, Billy Halse ; junior, Valmai Scholz, . Patsy Heary ; tiny tots, Bridie Mullane, Alan Hooper. Highly Commended.—Nigel Atkey, Alan Atkey, Trixie Simcox, Marie Lindsay, Douglas Haslett, Gordon Haslett, Thelma Reid. Special Prizes. Mona Brown, Loma Hildreth, Tony Fitzherbert, Maisie Mullane. All the prizes were donated, and each child received a gift. The supper was excellent, and the committee of the Plunket Society and its helpers are to be congratulated on the success of the function. No efforts were spared to see that the children had a happy time. ; After the children had vacated the floor the adults had their turn. The Putaruru orchestra supplied the music.
