ROCKET SHIPS COMING?
Will it soon be possible for us to travel from England to France in less than five minutes? In recent issues of Tit-Bits prophecies have bee made that long distances will be covered in an amazingly short time by means of “ rocket ships.” AnotheT step towards the fulfilment of this idea seems to have been made by Max Valier, a German inventor, who proposes this summer to propel the first * rochet ship ; ’ from Dover to Calais. Oil Lake Starnberg, Mr Vallei' has recently attained a speed of 235 miles an hour with a rocket-propelled ‘machine fitted with ski-runners. The oled and rocket cost £75, while Sir Henry Segrave’a record-breaking car cost about £20,000. The craft for the Dover to Calais experiment will be on hydroplane lines, with plane surface, and the wings, besides acting so as to enable special manoeuvring. In appearance it will resemble an arrow or harpoon, with a length about three times as great as its wing span.
