A New Zealander now on an extended tour of the world, writing from Chicago, makes some striking comments on the steps taken by the police to preserve law and order in that city. He states that the city police all carry batons and revolvers (not hidden). There are forty squads and cars out with four men in each, all the time, patrolling the city. The cars are all equipped with radio and pick-up calls from central. They also each carry a machine gun.
“ I deplore the fact that the lorries of different factories ply the same roads, day in and day out, during the season for the collection of cream,” said Mr. N. Fulton, chief dairy produce grader, to the conference of dairy factory managers a? Wanganui. He said that it was time the farmers became alive. They were paying for the carting and they should put a stop to the overlapping. The consensus of opinion at the conference appeared to support that view.
