A PROGRESSIVE CHURCH.

ADDITIONS TO HALL. Work Done by Voluntary Labour. The Putaruru Methodist Church has always been to the fore in movements pertaining to the welfare of the. young. In addition to the usual church activities the church authorities made the Bible Class Hall available for the use of the Young Men’s Club and the gymnasium, both undenominational institutions. To meet the growing activities of these bodies the church trustees decided to enlarge the building, and the work was carried out on Labour Day and Tuesday.

On Monday upwards of 25 willing workers were in evidence and the hall was added to by an 18ft extension. A kitchen 23ft by Bft was also added, making the hall a welcome addition to such accommodation. The workers did not observe union hours, and it was long after the shades of night had fallen that the voluntary carpenters wended their homeward way.

The ladies were to the fore in supplying greatly - appreciated refreshments to the men. The work was carried out under the supervision of Mr. F. C. Flyger, and the church authorities are grateful to all who so readily responded to the call for assistance. The Methodist folk are to be congratulated on this latest evidence of their progressiveness. The cost of the materials for the additions amounted to over £7O.
