THE PUTARURU PRESS. 'Phone 28 P.O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1929. AN UNSATISFACTORY POSITION
THE statement made by the chairman of the Putaruru Town Board at the last meeting of that body relative to the delay that has occurred in starting the street works is satisfactory in that it has cleared the air as far as the Town Board is concerned and absolves the, board from the blame that was being so freely bestowed on it.
Less satisfactory, however, is the telegram received by the Matamata county engineer and published in the Press to-day.
If the chairman of the Town Board is correct, and we believe him to be so, in saying that the work of the Main Highways Board has been interfered with by the Government, then the blame can at last be placed on the right shoulders, and the i'ain Highways Board has as good an explanation as the Town Board has. The position is unsatisfactory in the extreme, but we agree with the chairman of the Town Board that nothing should be done to jeopardise the latter body, for it is getting £SOOO from the Highways Board. The matter calls for careful yet firm handling, and we trust that such will be accorded it bv the Town Board.
