THE LAND BILL.

TOO MANY HEADS ? Discussion Deferred. The proposed Land Settlement Act was briefly discussed at the meeting of the Putaruru branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Saturday. The secretary, Mr. L. M. Nieklin, read the personnel of the proposed board to be set up under the Act, and expressed surprise at the action of thp Minister of Lands in bringing down such an Act. It was not the work of a farmer, but that of departmental heads. Mr. A. T. Morris facetiously remarked that they had educated the heads up to what they knew, so surely they could carry on.

Mr. Nieklin criticised the Bill along lines to that published in a recent interview, and he moved that Mr. Clinkard, M.P., be written to pointing out that in the opinion of the Putaruru branch there were too many departmental heads on the proposed board. V | Mr. A. R. Vosper suggested postponing discussion and resolutions until a later date. That the matter should be dealt with by the Rotorua sub-provincial executive was the opinion of Mr. A. T. Morris. After Mr. Nieklin had stated that branches should express their own opinions and not leave it entirely to the sub-provincial executive, the matter was allowed to stand over until a later date.
