VALEDICTORY.
REV. WAREING HONOURED M Presented With Cheque. Following on the combined service at the Putaruru Anglican Church on Sunday evening, the congregation adjourned to the Presbyterian Hall* where supper was provided and opportunity taken to bid a formal farewell to the vicar, the Ilev. Stephen R. Wareing, M.A., who left on Monday for Te Awamutu.
After supper, Mr. J. R. O. Lochhead, in presenting the departing clergyman with a cheque as a marie of their esteem and regard, said that a great many ministers did not always practice what they preached, but Mr. Wareing was doing so, for he was going “ onwards ” and upwards to the parish of Te Awamutu* On behalf of the congregation the speaker wished Mr. Wareing and his mother the best of luck and happiness. (Applause). Mr. Wareing, in reply, said that he felt a trifle put out of his usual course of action by the presentation, for he felt that he could have done more, and he was deeply conscious of his failings. He thanked them for their expression of goodwill, and he also thanked them for the greatest compliment that they could pay him —the free access to their homes, where he had been treated as one of themselves. He asked -them never to pass through Te Awamutu without calling on him, for he would deem it a great pleasure to be allowed to entertain them. He appealed to the people to right royally support the incoming vicar, the Rev. Atkey, and to allow him the free access to their homes that they had accorded the speaker. (Applause). Those present then individually bade Mr. Wareing good-bye.
