POWER IN THAMES VALLEY.

MEETING OF BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board was held last week. Present : Messrs. F. M. Strange (chairman), C. A. Arthur, 11. M. Corbett, J. W. Anderson, H. It. Bush, J. B. Thomas, J. , Price, J. Pohlen, J. Allen, H. Torr ' and F. E. Flatt. :

I Extension at Putaruru. Mr. W. Proctor, Putaruru, wrote I asking for information with regard ! to the extension of the transmission line on the V/aotu road. The manager said there was one or two who might come in, justifying the extension. The matter could be looked into again. Merits of Wires.

Replying to a question, the engineer said that galvanised wire was used where the conditions did not warrant the expense .of copper wire. Mr. Price thought that they should not, as a matter of safety, use any more galvanised wire. Replying to Mr. Thomas, the engineer said the carry capacity was >nly l-12th of the carrying capacity of copper wire. The loss was greater lut the amount of current passing -hreugh the wire was so small in the case under consideration as to be just appreciable. No Tags.

The balance-sheet, which was vvith<ut tags, was laid on the table. Mr. Flatt: No portion of the wages s charged to loan account now. Mr. Sprague: Only about £SOO of he engineering charges. The chairman moved the adoption if the balance-sheet. Mr. Flatt, in seconding, said they were very fortunate. They had no lags, which was quitet unusual with local bodies in these days. Metering Commenced.

In the course of his report, the manager (Mr. R. Sprague) stated that the first shipment of 1200 meters arrived during the month, and the installing of meters.on the Patetonga section had been commenced. Upon the demand for installations slowing down, all available wiremen would be placed on metering.
