ANTIQUE.
I was in a refreshment bar in Dunedin last ye_r. I went in to get a cup of tea. Presently an old man walked up to the counter. “ Ah. how it all comes hack In me,” he said, as he passed his hand through his white locks. “ How it ill comes back to me ! ” The girl behind the counter regarled him symnathetical'y. “ Have you been here before, then ? ” she asked, pleasantl”. “ I don’t seem to remember VOU.” “ It was before your time, miss,” replied the old man. “ Forty-five years ago when I was last here, and I remember standing in this very spot.” “ Are you ouite sure that it was at this very counter ? ” she asked, looking at him inquiringly. “ Positive,” he said, in a voice shaking with emotion. “Yes, indeed, it was. I remember so well when I carved my initials on vonder ham sandwich, and I see it is still there.”
