BRITAIN'S MEAT IMPORTS.
For the first quarter of 1929 the total arrivals of all descriptions of meat, 356,000 tons into Great Britain showed a reduction of 20,000 tong compared with 1928. Receipts of chilled beef were somewhat smaller, Argentina sending only 106,000 tons against 122,00C tons, although Uruguay with 15,000 tons 'nearly trebled the quantity sent in 1928. Arrivals of frozen beef totalled tons, Rowing a slight increase of 3000 tons. Argentina sent 14,000 tons, and Australia 7000 tons of frozen beef supplies, the former being 1000 tons more than the previous year whereas Australia sent almost double as much as in 1928. Frozen mutton: The arrivals for the first three months of 1929 amounted to 63,000 tons, of which Australia supplied 11,000 tons, New Zealand 28,000 tons, and Argentina 19,000 tons. Bacon and ham imports: The-bacon imports, 301,000 tons* were 3 3,000 tons smaller than in 1928, whereas the ham imports, 10,600 tons, vvere only 700 tons less.
