FOR waste of time the present Parliament must very nearly achieve an undesirable record. The Plouse has been sitting for weeks, and it is only during the last few days that any business has been transacted. Most of the time has been occupied in the debate over the Budget, a dreary protracted discussion in which party .interests were paramount. The incidents of the “ loan mystery ” and the clash between the Minister of Education and' the member for Thames' have not redounded to the credit of the House.
In the meantime the country is becoming restive. A great deal has been said about the unemployment problem but very little has been done in the direction of a solution. The United Party had great, chances of i leaving its mark on the political history of the Dominion. The opportunity still remains, but there will need to be a considerable change from the early part of the session if the promises of the election are to be fulfilled.
