WELCOME HOME.
SUNDAY SCHOOL WORKER. Mr. and Mrs. Watkins Honoured The Methodist Sunday School room, was the scene of a pleasant little function on Wednesday afternoon, when the members of the Sunday school and several of their parents met to welcome home Mr. and Mrs. Watkins, who have just returned from their honeymoon. The hall was tastefully decorated with multi-coloured streamers, while above the door was a sign, “ Welcome Home,” indicating the nature of the function. Spring flowers made an appeal to all. Rev. H. Ashworth presided. After games and the opening devotional exercises Mr. Ashworth, in an appreciative speech, paid a tribute to the self-sacrificing work of Mr. Watkins as joint Sunday school superintendent and on behalf of those present welcomed the guests home not only to Putaruru but to the Sun-
day school, and also extended to Mr. Watkins and his bride the best wishes of all for their future happi-
ness. Mr. Edmeades, the senior Sunday school superintendent, in endorsing Mr. Ashworth’s remarks in a semihumorous speech, presented the guests with a handsome silver ho» water jug as a mark of appreciation. The speaker also added his good wishes for the future success of Mr. and Mrs. Watkins. Mr. Watkins, who was greeted with applause as he rose to respond, thanked them all on behalf of Mrs. Watkins and himself for the handsome gift and the good wishes. He had felt happy in Putaruru and he was very pleased to help in the Sunday school.
Mrs. Watkins also briefly thanked those present. Mrs. Ashworth neatly voiced her appreciation of the self denial shown by Mr. and Mrs. Watkins in the work ; of the Sunday school. During the afternoon a brief programme was submitted and the performers were loudly applauded. Those contributing were : Master Allan Hooper, recitations ; Misses S. and I. Fitness and Masters R. Ashworth and 3, Edmeades, double
duet; Mabel Lockyer, recitations ; Mrs. Ashworth, song. Rev. H. Ashworth and Master R- Ashworth played the accompaniments. *l* An acceptable afternoon tea was provided by the ladies and the gathering terminated with the singing of “ For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,” followed by three hearty cheers for the guests.
