A WARNING.

IT seems remarkable that just when a British Labour Government is seeking to reduce its military control in Egypt, the need should suddenly arise to rush troops to Palestine to keep order. The trouble was fore-shadowed though its precipitation was hardly expected so soon. It seems to have been a religious outbreak, not a rising against the mandatory power. But it gives a note of warning. What may have been brought about by religious fanaticism in Palestine may occur in

Egypt. It affords an object lesson for the future history of the Suez Canal, which still remains the neck of the British Empire. What might be the position if the British retired to the Canal zone and if double trouble in Egypt and Palestine arose at the same time?
