N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.

MORRINSVILLE BRANCH. Monthly Meeting. Owing to other attractions the attendance at the monthly meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union on Saturday evening was smaller than usual. The president, Mr. G. Pirrit, presided, those present being Messrs. Eaynell, M. E. Barrowclough, J. Allen, F. Seifert, C. Saxon, S. Ferguson and J. E. Leeson. The secretary, Mr. J. L. Faulkner, was granted leave of absence, Mr. Barrowclough acting temporarily. ■Tlie Wednesday half holiday committee wrote thanking the branch for its support in the endeavour to bring about a reversion to Saturday opening in Morrinsville. The branch passed a resolution sympathising with the provincial secretary, Mr. A. E. Robinson, who has been ill. Appreciation was expressed of Mr. Robinson’s devotion to his duty while incapacitated. It was stated that a number of members were not receiving the Farmers’ Union monthly publication, to which their subscriptions entitled them, and the secretary was instructed to forward a list of all financial members and ask that they be supplied with the journal. Mr. Leeson referred to the duties on pig feeds and the efforts that were being made by the Pig Marketing Association to have a reduction effected. The tariff was so prohibitive that little pig food was imported and the reyenue derived was negligible. A resolution was passed on the motion of Messrs. Leeson and Allen drawing the attention of the Auckland executive to the stranglehold the duties on grain offal had on the pig export industry in New Zealand and asking that the case for the pig producers be laid before the Parliamentary Commission set up to inquire into tariffs. An account for £1 4s for expenses in connection with the launching of the Women’s Division of the union was passed.
