VALUABLE DECORATIVE HINT.

Women often complain that they cannot, get the exact colour or material they require for curtains in the furnishing .departments. Grey, for instance, is very difficult to obtain; so are certain shades of beige. Personally, I have found that the dress goods 1 department will often furnish the ideal thing. Cotton gaberdine, if lined with thin mercerised cotton of some kind, makes excellent curtains which wear well and look most attractive. All curtains should be lined, by the way. even if the lining is merely a mercerised batiste or muslin. They wear better and hang better. Mercerised poplin, also to be found in the dress department, is another good material from which to make curtains; so is cotton broadcloth. Both have the rich appearance of taffeta, and are light enough for use as casement curtains. For Bedrooms. Unusual bedroom curtains are-also to bo found in the dress goods department; cotton shantung, for instance, a material which is guaranteed not to fade. Ginghams need little recommendation, so excellent are their washing properties; in a check pattern < lined with plain gingham, they are particularly fascinating. Old-fashioned but Charming. Old fashioned prints make delightful nursery curtains if lined with plain batiste, and they wash well. Even voiles will accommodate themselves to windows—flowered voile lined with plain voile in he same shade as the design, is delightful in the nursery, and in the simply-furnished bedroom.
