THE PUTARURU PRESS. Phone 28 P. O. Box 44 Office Oxford Place THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 1929. THE BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

THAT it is possible for an organisation to do excellent work in an unobtrusive manner is proved by the Putaruru Beautifying Society, which consists of a band small in numbers but large in enthusiasm.

As pointed out in a previous issue of the Press, the 1 society has very wisely decided to plant the streets adjacent to the main thoroughfares, for nothing impresses the passersby more than streets nicely laid out. It is hoped that whatever is holding up the completion of the formation of the streets will be settled before the coming summer, so that these much-needed improvements can be put in hand and thus complete the effect that the work of the Beautifying Society will have on the appearance of the town. It was reported at the last meeting of the committee that several residents had offered to plant the frontages of their streets, and this displays a commendable spirit of citizenship that could be emulated by others. / We trust that the residents of Putaruru will assist the society ip its aim of making the town more beautiful. They can do this by becoming members or following the lead given by those public-spirited folk who have offered to plant trees.
