BRAZIL ROADS.
The motor road between Rio de Janeiro and the city of Petropolis, 2,600 feet above sea level, that has recently been completed, is an engineering feat of first importance. The road is some forty miles long, and. although the sa? r distance when reached by railroad involves the use of eogwhcelcd locomotives, the road uas no grades steeper than 6 per cent. Many huge cuts, fills and bridgings were used in this construction.
The new road is the second important, one to be completed since the federalstate co-operative road building was adopted. The highwa. to Petropolis goes directly to the interior, up to Sorrado Mar Ocean Range, and serves to connect Rio with the city known as the ‘•Summer Capital.” The road also serves to connect Rio with the Toad system of the State of Minas Geraes.
