JERSEY BREEDERS.

SUPPORT ONE CLUB,

Decision at Tirau. Whilst members were being enrolled at tne meeting of the Jersey Bleeders’ Club at Tirau on Thursday Mr. E. M. Peffers (Putaruru) stated that he was present under a misapprehension. He understood that the idea of the meeting was to discuss the formation of a Putaruru-Tirau oranch of the club.

Mr. F. Rose thought the speaker was under a misapprehension. Mr. J. F. Vosper thought that Mr. Peffers’ view was right. He did not know where he got the idea from, but he thought that before taking members into the Matamata club, perhaps against their will, they ought to know exactly where they stood. He certainly hoped it would be discussed at the meeting, if only to let everyone know the exact position.

Mr. Rose further stated that he strongly supported the idea of joining up with the Matamata club. It was no use having meetings where only one or two rolled up, and if Putaruru and Tirau joined up as suggested, they would have one big club and be able to make themselves felt. Then, in a year or two they might be strong enough to have a club of their own at the southern end. If so, one could be formed, but in the meantime they should conserve their strength. Mr. Lewis agreed with these remarks, and hoped they would stick to the club as with a strong club they could keep their end up with he A. and P. Association. He said that in quite a fair spirit, as he was appreciative of the fact that members of that body were most enthusiastic in their work. However, they were not Jersey breeders, and of course did not look at matters from the breeders’ point of view. With a strong club they would be in a better position to, attain their ends. At the same time he recognised that breeders had also to try knd look at things from the A. and P. point of view. He felt that with tact they would yet get what they wanted. Mr. Vosper stated that as an outside man he felt the A. and P. owed a lot to Jersey breeders. Mr. Garland pointed out that with the subsidies already in sight, and '"he furtjier increase if they started the Oaks competition, the show would benefit considerably.

Mr. Gould stated that he foil some of , the A. and P. members thought thpy (the breeders) wanted to dominate the show, but he assured them that all they wanted to dominate wds the entries and not the policy. At the request of a member, the chairman stated that the club had contributed £ls per year to prize money for the past few years in extra money. He suggested that the meeting leave this matter in the hands of the executive. If they wenfi into details they would be there all night and might get worked up. (Laughter). Mr. Vosper then moved that the meeting endorse the action of the executive and express full confidence in their work. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr. PefFers later stated that he fully agreed that unity was strength and he was quite prepared to join up with the Matamata club. He bad been one of the first to start the ball rolling in Putaruru. but there were only a, few breeders in that ’district, and they apparently were not keen on forming a club of their own. He hoped all would null together for the sake of the breed. (Anplnuse).

Loqal and visiting members then unanimously decided that for the -resent it was better to have one strong, club and agreed to support the present executive.
