ANNUAL MEETING. Sound Financial Position. There was an attendance of about J twenty members at the annual mqet- ' ing of the Matamata A. and P. As- j sociation, in the Farmers’ Hall, on | Friday. Mr. W. S. Wilson, presi- ! dent, occupied the chair. Chairman’s Remarks. t i In reviewing the past year the 1 president regretted that more inter- | est in the show was not taken by the ! ■ younger generation on the land. He : also thought it would be a good tiling if they could get the Hunt to ! come back to the district. The chop, the trot and the parade were ; good items in last year’s programme and should certainly be continued. ! The meeting endorsed these senti- ■ ments. j Report. | The report stated that lakt year had shown a great improvement on l previous years, the membership increasing from 197 to 356, exclusive I of fourteen life members and seven honorary members, an increase of ISO.
Entries for the show were down about £22, the decrease being in horse classes (28), fat cattle (4), Shorthorns (6), Jerseys (8), Friesians (6), Ayrshives (21), pigs (3). Increases were shown in cottage cow (3) and sheep (7). The industrial section showed an increase of 145 entries and the schools a decrease of 37. The show shed, which was blown down, was re-erected at a cost of £2O for material, Mr. La Trobe, with working bees, doing the work. Mr. Stevens and the bank staffs generously gave their Services as gatekeepers. Thanks were also due tu Messrs. Wilson, Young, Barford and West for their work in canvassing the district for members. At the beginning of the year the association had debts of £l7l to the Racing Club, and £37 for printing. Theso ,
had been cleared and the association would start the year with a credit balance of about £IOO. The report and balance-sheet, which has already been published, was adopted on the motion of Messrs Price and Rollett. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P.; president, Mr. W. S. Wilson; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. Young and C. G. PayZe; committee, Messrs. A. S. Thirlwall, B. C. Taylor, ■T. E. West, R. K. Garland, J. Landells, F. J. Barford, H. Rollett, F. W. Bowler, A. A. Potts, H. Lewis, F. Richmond, B. Roberts, M. Gould, A. M. A. Wright, Bush, S. Bear, T. Bottomley, J. Price, J. Downie, F. Underwood; treasurer, Mr. R. W. Stevens; auditor, Mr. G. G. Bell. Ribbons. A remit from the Matamata Jersey Club asked that ribbons be given to reserve champions as well as to champions, and that they be issued to all prize winners. Mr. Thirlwall explained that the non-issue of ribbons last year was simply due to a mistake. Mr. Lewis pointed out that big exhibitors came from a distance and were very disappointed when no ribbons were issued for the parade, which was everything to them. Fifty per cent of exhibitors had not got ribbons. Several members disagreed with this view, and the chairman explained that all prize winners had got ribbons in the end because he himself had issued them. Mr. Stevens: The whole trouble was because a prominent Jersey breeder failed in his job as steward. (Loud laughter). , The suggestion was agreed to.
