DEPARTING TEACHERS.

LOSS TO DISTRICT. Messrs. Edmonds and Marshall. The Putaruru District High School and the district generally are faced with a severe loss in the forthcoming departure of Messrs. A. S. Edmonds and E. M. Marshall, who have accepted positions elsewhere.

Mr. Edmonds has been first assistant at the school and during his appointment he occupied the position of acting headmaster on two occasions. He took a keen interest in the school and the Sporting slue of it will feel his removal. He also took an active interest in the Putaruru Rugby Union, being treasurer until recently, when he was compelled to resign owing to increasing demands on his time in the way of assisting school football. As secretary of the Golf Club he has rendered excellent sendee and he will be greatly missed both in this capacity and as a player. He has been appointed headmaster of the Reporoa school. Mr. Marshall has been in charge of the secondary department since its inception at the beginning of the year, and under his guidance good work has been accomplished. In most district high schools where matriculation and Public Service entrance candidates are preparing for these examinations the language taught is generally French, and the fact that Mr. Marshall is able to teach this language and Latin has been of great benefit to those whose training for certain professions demands a knowledge of the latter. Apart from his school duties Mr. Marshall has taken a great interest in movements having as their object the entertainment of the youth of the town, and he organised the Pymi Club and also takes a keen interest in the YoungPeople’s Bible Class of the Methodist Church. He is also a lay preacher of the same church and in addition is a valued memher of the Putaruru branch of the W.E.A. He goes to Taumarunui as an assistant at the district high school there. Both these gentlemen will take with them the best wishes of the citizens of th“ town and district for nrosperous and successful careers in their new spheres.
