The manager of the Kuakura State Farm surprised visiting farmers from the South Island when he informed them of the quantity of stock he expected to winter on the 800 acres of pasture. The list comprised 1950 sheep (including 1540 breeding ewes), 327 pedigree cattle, and 30 horses. In addition there were 250 pigs in the piggery and adjoining paddocks.
