VOICE WORTH £40,000.
LAURA LA PLANTE. Because the voice of Laura La Plante has proved outstanding in talking pictures. Universal Pictures Corporation has contracted for a 200.000 dollar policy insuring it against injfhry. If the star should suffer a total and permanent loss of the ability to “talk 'dearly and distinctly as r.ow, ;> Universal would receive 260,000 dollars, according to the policy, to offset expenditures on whatever starring vehiclo might be in production. A movietone test was made of Miss La Plante’s voice in order to preserve the evidence of its present quality. In ease of injury the test would show to what degree her voice had changed. The policy covers loss of voice either through accident or through conditions developing from illness. It will be in effect as long as the star is under contract. Miss La Plante is now working on the singing and dialogue sequences of “Show Boat” under the direction of • Harry Pollard. Following the completion of * 4 Show Boat,” she will do talkscenes for 1 ‘Scandal,” a Wesley Buggies production.
