I A considerable part of the meeting was taken up by the hearing of an appeal by the Pirongia Club against the decision of the Waipa sub-union in awarding a match, "United-Pirongia, to the former. It was explained that the match was won by Pirongia, but United had protested on the grounds that Piron- | gia had played a man, Howard, who j

bad been granted a transfer from ’ Pirohgia to Ngutunui club on the previous Monday. ’ j Evidence was tendered to the ef-j feet that Howard had not applied for a transfer—it had been applied j for by another player for himself | and (allegedly) Howard. | The Waikato union held that the j application for a transfer for How- ! ard was not in order. Quin was selected to represent the union on the Waikato Referees’ Advisory Board. Forthcoming Tour. Proposals for a tour by the Waikato representative team to commence early next month were before the meeting. . This provided for matches against Hawke’s Bay at Napier, East Coast at Ruatoria, Wairoa at Wairoa and Poverty Bay at Gisborne. It was also suggested that a match should be played against Bay of Plenty on the way home. In all, this would mean that the trip would extend to thirteen days.

Messrs. Mclntyre and Yardley pointed out that there was a resolution on the minute book restricting the tour to three matches. They would not object to a match with Wairoa on the day following the game with Hawke’s Bay, but they xvished to record their objection to a match with Bay of Plenty being incorporated in the tour. This would mean adding to the number of players required, and would mean the expense of keeping the men away three days extra.

After addressing a Cambridge audience on the rules of the game Mr. F. E. Sutherland, the well-known Auckland referee, was asked : Can a player take a pass in an offside position? “Yes,” said Mr. Sutherland. As soon as the ball came out of the scrum there was nothing to stop an opposing player running up and getting in between his opponents’ backs run hack with them and intercept a pass, to then go for his life towards his opponents’ goal line. It was also quite in order for a player of one I side to throw in the hall to a colI league from the lineout provided the ) spot had been indicated and provided the receiver was outside the five yards’ line.
