PLENTY OF APPLICANTS.
FOR FARM LANDS.
But no Opportunities.
Speaking to a representative of this paper, a well-known Te Poi farmer, who has had opportunities of noting land settlement problems in other countries, gave it as his opinion that more bold measures were necessary in New Zealand. He was convinced from his own experience that there were very many youths of the light type, and with experience, who were only too I eager to take up land provided they j could secure it on reasonable terms. Many fine lads, who would make ideal settlers, had approached him and he had been almost tempted to back one or two of them, but the high values were the stumbling hlock and his advice to all had been to wait until , they could secure a bit at a reasonable figure, with a long term mortgage on the amortization principle. In this settler’s opinion there would be plenty of applicants for land provided there was a reasonable chance of those taking it up making a success of their operations. It would be found that there were plenty of applicants if the opportunities were provided. Matamata Record.
