Tirau.
Women's Division. The first meeting of the newlyformed Women’s Branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the Tirau hall on Friday, Mrs. John Watson (president) being in the chair. There was a large attendance of ladies. The meeting opened with a hymn anti the women’s creed read by Mrs. Watson. The business transacted was in connection with Mother’s Welfare Week. Thirteen new members were elected, and three vice-presidents were added, viz.: Mesdames Harwood, Dennis and Goodwin. At the conclusion of the business the president entertained the ladies to a dainty afternoon tea, which was served by her two daughters, Mrs. Grantham and Miss Ruby Watson. A beautiful birthday cake to celebrate the birthday of the newlyformed branch was also a gift of the president. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Marsh and family, who have been residents of the district for a number of years, left during the week for Henderson, Mr. Marsh having bought a farm property in that district. Mr. H. Cooke, an employee of Mr. A. Stewart, is leaving shortly, having purchased a farm at Waharoa. Mrs. E. W. Jordan is at present on a holiday to be spent at St. Heilier’s Bay. Mr. E. W. Jordan has just recovr ered from a severe bout of influenza which kept him in bed for several days. School. The contractors for the new school at Okoroire Railway are making good progress and the section is now fenced and the framework of the building erected. Fancy Dress Dance. A children’s fancy dress dance, organised by the Tirau Anglican Ladies’ Guild, was held in the Tirau Hall on Friday evening. The hall crowded with a happy band of children, and in addition the aduit population of the town and district were strongly represented. Dancing and games made the time pass all too quickly. A feature of the evening were the solo dances, a Spanish dance and a Sailor's Hornpipe, by Miss R. Jenkins.
The prize-winners were: Best girl, R. Jenkins, “ Spanish Dancer.” Best boy: Edgar Pevreal, “ French Soldier.” Most original costume, girls, Mabel Mouldey, “ Dairy Farmer.” Most original costume, boys: Ivan Hawes, “ Aviator.” Best couple: ’ Ray and S. Banney, “ Robinson Crusoe and Friday,” .first; Sonia Wilson and Elmer Cresswell, “ Naval Wedding,” second. Tiny tots: Joyce McQuarrie, “ Daisy ”; luerle Naysmith, “ Chicken Desmond Cochrane, “ Soldier Jean Pevreal, ‘ Rambler Rose.” Special prizes were awarded to Alice Bear, “ Shepherdess Max is Pulman, “ Grannie Jim Seton, “ Footballer Betty, Normie and Joe Goodwin, “ Red, White and Blue.” The Rev. S. R. Wareing presented the prizes to the winners. The proceedings opened with the grand march and the supper was a firstclass adjunct to the function. Dancing was continued until midnight, and the parish funds will benefit as a result. Among the children in fancy dress were: Verdun Beir, “House”; Frank Bear, “ Pirate ”; L.
