POWER BOARD.

THAMES VALLEY DISTRICT. New Members Welcomed. The ordinary meeting of the Thames Valley Power Board was held on Tuesday. Present : Messrs.

Putaruru’s Representation. A telegram was received from the department stating that no means were known by which the Matamata county representative could represent Putaruru on the Power Board without issuing a further Order-in-Council. Mr. Anderson said it did not matter as far as the County Council was concerned whether Putaruru capie in with the county or the Matamata Town Board. The Chairman : There is just the franchise, which is different in town board districts and in counties. Mr. Anderson said the Matainata Town Board was in communication with the Government. Quality of Wire. The Ngatea branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union wrote complaining of the frequent stoppages in power supply during milking hours. Mr. Price said a question that had been raised in his mind of late was whether they were getting the right class of wire. Mr. Sprague • In the early days we did get inferior wire from America but now we are getting only British wire up to association standard. Mr. McLeod said the wire which came down was some of that purchased a considerable time ago. It was impossible to tell without service whether wire was satisfactory or not. The chairman said the board, following the lines of economy, had obtained cheap materials which had not proved satisfactory. Power for Tokoroa. A request was received from Tokoroa that the district be canvassed with a view to having electric power supplied.

The Manager : We have -been over the district before. There is a big break of country before the area is reached. Mr. McLeod was instructed t.o inspect and report.
