MOTOR TRANSPORT.
IMPORTANCE IN AUSTRALIA. The first scepticism over tlie commercial motor vehicle has advanced in leaps and bounds for it was so obviously superior to the horse and trap for personal transportation, although withal its actual running costs were greater. The commercial vehicle, however, had to prove that this greater speed in transporting goods was not offset by higher operating costs as compared with those of the horsedrawn waggon. In running a car for private use the owner, provided that he is fairly well set up in this world’s goods, is not apt to worry over-much about the running costs, but the same man will go into sorts of facts and fig. ures when he contemplates the pur chase of a commercial vehicle for use in his business, and not until he is satisfied that definite savings and benefits will accrue to him will he take the plunge and put a motor truck ini a service. That is why commercial motor transport has been faced with f.-.r more difficulties than passenger motor transport..
