OILCLOTH HAS MANY USES.
Oilcloth seems to be coming into its own for many purposes other than those for which it was originally intended. It has been made obvious in the theatre that oilcloth is an excellent medium, in its many colourings, fo* fancy dress. It can be cut into the smartest of smart coats, jaunty caps, and the most intriguing of godet skirts. Under the name of “patentleather cloth, 1 3 this material i 3 so supple and tractable, in spite of its gallant crispness, that, armed with a suitable pattern, no one need be afraid to tackle it. Then figure to yourself a pouffe seat covered with oilcloth in primrose yel low, and tied round the waist witn broad black satin ribbons. The clot-.i needs to be folded into flat pleats in the region of the * * waist, ” and these very pleats become part of the pouffe’s adornment. Appliques of this glossy material prove most effective on curtains, am can be carried out in the form of flowers and foliage, ships and junks, pagodas. what you will. The appliques need not necessarily be stitched; they may be stuck on with thin glue.
