PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

; ENJOYABLE SOCIAL. The second anniversary of the Futaruru Presbyterian Church was fittingly ceieuruted by a social held in the church hall on Tuesday evening, ' 2Srd inst. There was a large at- , tendance and the whole function was i marked by a heartiness of spirit and a pleasing concord of good will between the various churches as represented by the presence of the Rev. S. R. Wareing, Wilkinson (Anglican), and K. Ashworth (blethodist). The Rev W. T. Brabyn presided and the proceedings opened with the singing of the National Anthem. A lengthy' programme of vocal and instrumental items was then submitted for the approval of tlie audience, and the uniformly high standard attained greatly pleased those present and hearty applause and frequent encores were the order of the evening. The following was the programme - Pianoforte solo, Mrs. Benton; song. Mr. Clare; vocal dm*;, Messrs. Brabyn and Tongs, song, Mr. G. Brown; song, Mrs. Hollingsheads; duet, Misses Thompson and Fitness; duet, Mrs. Holl’ngsheads and Mr. A. Hollingsheads; duet, Misses M. and A. Hutton; instrumental solo, Mr. Gawith, junr.; song, Mr. Gawith; pianoforte solo, Mrs. Brabyn; song, ( Mr. Tongs; stories, Mr. Bogbie. ,

The community singing contest between the members of the Ladies’ Guild and the church committee resulted in a two to one verdict in favour of the ladies. After the decision by the aud'enee the combined teams sang “ Mother Machrpe.”

Mr. Brabyn briefly traced the history of the church since its incep- j tiop, complimenting ail on the progress made and urging the members and friends to greater efforts. He appealed to all those who did not go to church to attend their own church. Mr. Ashworth, speaking for the Methodists, expressed his pleasure at ; being present, and he also appea'ed to people to support their respective churches. Mr. Ashworth concluded a semi-humorous soeech in which t l- »” - e was a fund of wisdom by expressing

It was on or- ! casions like the present one that ministers and people got to know one another better. Putaruru was a marvellous little place, with some fine undertakings in the makings, but j for these to be a success all must take their part. Mr. Wareing ,r 1 ro briefly his pleasure at being present, and extended his best wishes for a strong healthy Presbyterian Church in Putaruru. Community singing was indulged in. such old favourites ns “ Love's Old Swwt So”g.” “ Grandfather’s Clock,” “Pack Up Your Troubles,'* “ Come to the Fair ” and “ A Perfect Day ” receiving hearty renderings from the audiences. Misses W. Wheeler, Mesdames B'->bvn. Gawith and Mr. Howie shared the duties of accompanists. The ladies were as usual to the fore with an abundant supper, and the singing of the Doxology brought an enjoyable evening to a close.
