Yardley and Chapman pointed out- that this was the only public holiday in the season as most unions had fixtures of years’ standing for that day. Many of these would be spoilt if the trial match was played. Matamata Third Grade. On the application of the Matanata and Putaruru sub-unions permission was given to a Putaruru third grade team to play in the Mate, mata competitions. Proposed Waikato Tour. A long discussion occurred regarding a proposed tour of the Waikato union representatives this season. Mr. Yardley pointed out that each time Waikato had gone on tour it had brought itself down to zero in regard to finances. He suggested that the present credit balance could be better spent in assembling a

Waikato team in Hamilton a few lays before this season’s home matches. Mr. Griffiths strongly endorsed this vi-w. He said Waikato football had been on a comparatively low par. Waikato had been classed as a “ B ” union and the classification was just about right. He thought that the union might we!' spend some of its funds internally The speaker said the players could not be blamed; Waikato had the players but they were not given a chance.

Mr. Chapman in=-Wnced the pro•'•’■ess of the Wairararo union through going on tour. The union had to go away to get matches at home.

Mr. Cooper also spoke against the ar.collation of the proposed tour. T -e said players had to go away to •e-'lly see how big football was played, Mr. Yard l ey s"id the result of the last tour, when Waikato visited Dannevirke to play Hawke’s Bay, was that a Hawke’s Bay C team visited Waikato during the following season. Wanganui had only visited Waikato once as against two visits by Waikato. Wairarapa had repaid every visit, but Bush had not repaid one.

A motion by Messrs. Yardley and Griffiths to recommend to the management committee the cancellation of the tour was defeated by 7 votes to 6. Matamata v. Pialio. The application of the Matamata union for permission to play a match against Piako at Te Aroha on June 3 was, granted, subject to any players required being available to Waikato on that day. Reinstatement. The application of the Morrinsville sub-union for the approval of an application to the New Zealand Rugby Union for the reinstatement of J. Voysey from the League game to Rugby was considered, and it was decided to send the application to the New Zealand Rugby Union. The British Visit. In view of the visit of the British earn next season, various aspects of olay were discussed. On the motion of Mr. Whiting it was decided to recommend the New Zealand Rugby Union to adopt the three men front row play. On the motion of Mr. McDavitt it was decided to suggest that no interference be made the New Zealand kick into touch rule. Finlay Cup Rules. A motion by the Matamata subunion, of which notice had been given, to alter the Finlay Cup rule, to provide for a ballot for tne order of play after the time for challenges closed was considered. The proposal was strenuously opposed by the Waipa delegates. Mr. Yardley said there was no bogey about the proposal; it was made to place all the sub-unions on the same footing and to stop the scramble for first games. Mr. Chapman said for several years Waipa had been first in; they had issued their challenges before their annual meeting.- The alteration would stop sub-unions issuing challenges before the season had commenced. .

The motion was carried. Later in the meeting Mr. Yardley suggested that a similar provision would improve the Peace Cup rules. Ke thought the donor, Mr. English, 1 might be approached with general reference to these rules, through which, said Mr. Yardley, a team of six horses could be driven. Ranfurly Shield. On the motion of Messrs. Griffiths and Yardley, it was decided to issue a challenge for the Ranfurly Shield. The mover said a shield match would show Waikato just how low its standard of play was. Mr. Yardley suggested that it would do Waikato good to get a gb at the shield. “ The Taranaki System.” , On the motion of Mr!- McDavitt and Mr., Griffiths, it was decided that he management committee go into the matter of the adopting the club ( system, instead of the sub-union system at present in vogue. Mr. Booth: That is what is called he Taranaki system. Mr. McDavitt: Yes. Management Committee. At a subsequent meeting of the management committee, Mr. T. B. Booth was appointed chairman. A further discussion took place regarding the proposed tour, Mr. Yardley again strongly opposing. T he matter was deferred to a meetma - of the committee to be held next Friday. MATAMATA RESULTS.
